Artist's Story

Artist's Story

Starting from the local area,

Locally sourced materials,

Roughly crafted and specially crafted,

Using firewood as a medium,

Presenting objects that combine beauty and utility to users in a simple and natural way.

Objects become beautiful because they are used, and beauty makes them loved. Because people love them, they are used more frequently, warming each other and spending every day together.

For most creators, the focus is on the aesthetic value of objects as the main research direction. If we consider who uses this object and how users feel its practicality and functionality, this is a very important and crucial issue. This year, I have slowed down the pace of producing artifacts, striving to coordinate the practicality, functionality, artistry, and uniqueness of each artifact.

When you first see Yi Yi's works, it's hard to imagine that she is a female ceramic artist. Her rough and simple style doesn't reveal any traits of a female writer, and you're surprised and curious about what kind of girl she is with such a grand core.

Yi Yi is a delicate and peaceful girl, born in the ancient Yan Painting Village in Lishui, Zhejiang. The natural scenery there is excellent, so Yi Yi has the beauty of a beautiful woman living in an empty valley, as the ancients said, in the south.

Yi Yi graduated from Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute with a major in Ceramic Art in 2015. Later, he returned to his hometown and founded Guiran Ceramic Art Studio, which is now a husband and wife ceramic studio. His husband resigned from the company in 2019 and joined the studio to create ceramic art together. In 2020, he established his personal brand "Gubu Kiln", focusing on making his favorite objects and gradually forming his own style to this day.

2021 is considered an important year for her. In August, she rented a detached house with a three sided courtyard in a quiet place in the countryside, built a firewood kiln to burn firewood vessels, opened up several acres of land to personally plant vegetables, and lived her ideal life while creating. She is grateful that she has never given up on the path of pottery. Although she doesn't earn much money, she feels very happy in her heart. In the future, I hope to make objects better and make ordinary life more exciting.
